The name is a wordplay on the Hot Wheels *AcceleRacers* line, and the casting is a modified version of Rat-ified. Rat-ified is an original Hot Wheels vehicle that debuted in 2005 as part of the *AcceleRacers: Metal Maniacs* lineup. When new, the Toronado cost about $4,600, which equals roughly $44,000 today. It won the 1966 Motor Trend Car of the Year award for its engineering innovation and distinctive design. Honda ended the model due to slow sales and high development costs for small EVs. The car uses a 35.5 kilowatt hour battery and a rear-mounted motor that makes either 136 or 154 horsepower. Range is about 131 to 137 miles, depending on wheels and trim, and top speed is about 90 mph with a 62 mph time of about 9.0 seconds. Maserati designed it for events like the Nürburgring 1000 km and other endurance races. The car uses a 2.9 liter four cylinder engine that makes about 250 horsepower. It reaches about 177 mph and uses a five speed manual gearbox. Its tubular space frame earned the nickname Birdcage because it used hundreds of thin steel tubes for strength and low weight.
