The mid-engined 906 was constructed with a tubular steel spaceframe chassis and a lightweight fiberglass body designed and tested using a wind tunnel. A naturally aspirated 2.0-liter flat-6 engine produced around 210 horsepower and gave the Carrera 6 a top speed of 174 mph.
